Well the weather is set to be fine for the Easter week holiday. Time flies and winter looks to be well and truly behind us now. We are planning to have a walk along the Caledonian Canal probably from Fort Augustus and while we are at Fort Augustus will have a short riverside walk to look for Kingfishers. We have seen them here before but only once as are not common around here I think we are on their northernmost boundary.

The main thing is to get out there and enjoy the mild spring weather and have a nice Easter break everyone.

We really have a great selection of activity holiday ideas nowadays at Loch Ness. I remember a year or two ago there was very little in the way of organised guided walking or activity centres around here, but now it seems, the lie on a hot beach for a week type of holiday seems to be on the wane we get more and more demand for canoeing, mountain biking, hiking, paintballing etc. from folk wanting fast and furious outdoor experiences and Loch Ness area has risen to the demand. There is very little in the way of outdoor activities that we cannot cater for now just look at the choice and variety in our activity holidays page. Now I do not presume that holidays in the sun are a thing of the past, they most certainly are not, but perhaps with good roads and fast trains, and flights to Inverness and other parts of the Highlands being so much better now than they were, more and more of the city folks are choosing to get away for strenuous and exhilerating activity holiday in between their holidays in the sun. Loch Ness makes an excellent base for all types of ourdoor enthusiasts, chances are you won’t get burnt by the sun but you really will have fun! and we have the best selection of accommodation in Inverness and Loch Ness to suit all budgets.

To answer another question from a golfing visitor.
How do I ship my golf clubs to Scotland?
It seems this is a question frequently asked by golfers and one which I have never given any thought to, especially as I don’t play golf! But yes, I guess most keen golfers get attached to their clubs and just like fishermen and other outdoor sports enthusiasts want to take their own fishing rods, golf clubs etc. with them on holiday. Now I think about it, golfers must feel daunted by the prospect of getting through airports with a golf bag in tow!
Luckily I was talking to a Loch Ness local who, as an ex-cabin crew member and ex-LHR ground staff and ex-wife of a PGA golf caddie, offered the following advice which may be of help!

Golf clubs are usually checked in at the check-in desk. They are specially labelled and the baggage handlers take them separately. For the flight they get put in the ‘forward hold’ (which is a smaller hold) to avoid damage. A good quality bag does go a long way to keep them from damage. They come out on the carousel at your destination, unless told otherwise. The BA Cargo Centre will accept them and tell you all the procedures for unaccompanied baggage, if they are sent in advance. They can be
found via the BA website and are situated on the perimeter road at Heathrow. Other airports will all have similar procedures. This information on shipping golf clubs was given to me by Fiona from www.inverness4x4adventure.co.uk/ an outdoor activity centre at Loch Ness

I hope this is helpful to some of the hundreds of golfers who come to Scotland and Loch Ness in particular, to enjoy some of the many great golf courses in the Highlands.
