Over the years people have tried many ways to get Nessie to show herself, and it seems the lure of the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running has finally done the trick.
With deadline for entry to this year’s event only a week away (closing date is midnight on 10th September) the local legend has been spotted out training on the scenic back roads around her watery Highland home. However, she may need to fit in a few more training sessions, as her shy and retiring side has kept her confined to aqua jogging until now; as a result, her running style on dry land shows room for some improvement!
The area’s most famous resident looks set to join over 8000 other runners expected to take part in the largest participatory sporting event north of Scotland’s Central Belt on 30th September.
While it is not yet clear which of the five race events Nessie might take part in (Baxters Loch Ness Marathon, Baxters River Ness 10K, 10K Corporate Challenge, 5K Fun Run and Wee Nessie for the under fives), organisers expect that the Festival sideshows including live music, the Baxters Food and Drink Fayre, a charity and sports expo including massage teams, and lots of activities for kids will be enough to keep mortals and monsters alike entertained throughout the weekend.
So with plenty to entertain, energise and reward runners and supporters of all ages, the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running hopes to attract entries from all walks of life, with Nessie’s energetic emergence serving as a timely reminder that this stunning scenic running event really does offer something for everyone!
