Wanted – Right Wellie and Glove Shop

October 3rd, 2011

I've got so many right side wellie boots and gloves now, why cant we go in and buy 1 glove or 1 wellie - after all, usually only one or the other wears out and you have to throw both away. I always think what a shame – we have to throw both away. Some time ago I decided to keep the good ones and see if over time it would work out equal and I could make another pair but now I have a heap of right  wellies and gloves.

Years ago when a sock wore out you would darn it but can anyone darn these days ?? Gloves the same – darn it !  Wellie repairs are more difficult but plastic bags on feet has worked for me !!

The throw away society has put an end to all that, but perhaps in the present economic climate we could revive some of the old practices like darning, gardening, cooking, dare I say knitting!

One thing though that is constant and unchanging, whatever the economic climate may be - Loch Ness was beautiful yesterday, is today and will be tomorrow. Now, if I find left wellies and gloves littering Loch Ness in the coming months I will know you have ready the Blog! but we all know litter is very BAD but a thought just struck me, we should lobby the council to provide receptacles around the Loch specially for left and right items, then we could all put the good half of our ruined pairs of things into them for the common good!!

Daydream over, funny how your mind wanders, now – back to work… where is Loch Ness?

@visit_lochness Thank you for following me. http://t.co/QPHeWFCx This is a splendid link for your visitors looking for Scottish roots!

there are a lot of people visiting Loch Ness and surrounding lands who come to either look for their birthplace or for their family roots. It is amazing just how many people from the USA, Australia and former British Empire colonies there are!  Many of the families and clan names are still common in glens and villages where mass migration took place and this is where the visitors head for.  At Loch Ness we have good resources and Heritage groups who just love helping people in their search for lost families and clan history. We too have a good bank of old pictures and other items of knowledge to pass on to our visitors.   check out our website and contact us here – http://www.visitlochness.com/contact.php

South Loch NessTrail Maps Online For Downloading

August 17th, 2011

There has been a surge in camping and backpacking enquiries this summer, no idea why it should have increased in popularity so much but it is nice to see more people enjoying th egreat outdoors!. I personally love camping and have camped in some of the remotest places throughout the year in the past.

We have also seen many more touring cyclists this year especially down the south side of Loch Ness as the roads are quieter it is ideal for tourers and campers. The road on the south side is close to Loch Ness for most of the way and its easy to get down to the waters edge for a picnic or just to enloy, it really is a great place to spend a summer holiday and absolutely unbeatable when the weather is kind, though seasoned outdoor enthusiasts don't let the weather deter them!

For those contemplating a Highland cycling or camping holiday, Loch Ness area is a good place to start looking, especially now we have new waymarked trail on the south side of the loch which extends almost the entire length of Loch Ness. Before you set off for the Highlands for your summer holiday check out the new trail route and download the South Loch Ness trail maps.
