Whisky Distillery Tour

Discover the true spirit of Scotland with a tour of Glen Ord Distillery - the nearest distillery to Inverness. Glen Ord Distillery was founded in 1838, making it one of the oldest in Scotland. Situated on the edge of the Black Isle west of Inverness, Glen Ord continues to malt its own barley and to use the long fermentation and slow distillation methods followed there for generations. A visit to the distillery and visitor centre at Muir of Ord on the edge of the Black Isle is a delight to the eye and the palate.

The main tour gives an overview of the whisky making process. See the distillers at work creating the award-winning single malt whisky, Singleton of Glen Ord. Enter a duty free warehouse to see where the whisky rests, maturing in casks for 12 years in the dark silence. You have the chance to nose both a sherry and bourbon cask to detect the difference in aromas. Tours can be tailored to demand. For example, discover how whisky can complement the flavours of different foods. No visit is complete without enjoying a dram of the special spirit, which has been described as "a rich, well balanced, sophisticated single malt". For the new Singleton of Glen Ord, a higher proportion of the liquid has been matured in European oak, delivering a rich, smooth-tasting, well-rounded style that's sweet, malty and dry on the palate. It comes presented in a traditional 19th century-style blue glass flask. Until now this magical malt has only been sold in Asia, but now it is available exclusively for visitors to Glen Ord Distillery itself. It will not be available to buy anywhere else in the UK!

Take time to browse in the exhibition or shop. Don't forget to redeem your discount voucher which you receive on admission to the tour, when you purchase a bottle of the Singleton of Glen Ord. There's also an excellent range of other single malts. The visitor centre is open from: April to September, Monday to Saturday from 10am-5pm; from July to September on Sunday from 12noon - 4pm, and from October to March, Monday to Friday from 11am-4pm. The last tour leaves one hour before closing.
