A more welcome sight you will never see. As you approach Dores from Inverness, the first thing you spy is a spectacular view of Loch Ness and the second is The Dores Inn situated on the shore of the Loch. On a cold day you can relax by the cosy log fire and enjoy lunch or dinner from a varied menu of home cooked food. On a nice day you can sit out by Loch Ness with a wee dram to catch a glimpse of the elusive Nessie or just to see the beautiful loch view followed perhaps by a stroll along Dores beach. The popular pub and restaurant was taken over by husband-and-wife team Quintin and Michelle Stevens at the end of 2008. The couple, who also run the Storehouse restaurant and farm shop just north of Dingwall, have brought their inimitable touch to the long established loch-side spot.
They have carried out extensive renovations and introduced a tantalising new menu confirming the Dores Inn as a country pub that offers great food, wine, ales and a relaxed atmosphere. There is new décor throughout the building and fireplaces have been opened up to add to the warmth of the atmosphere. The dining room has been extended and is furnished with lovely old tables and chairs sourced from a former church. A new outside back patio overlooking Loch Ness has also been created with a wrap-around glass screen to protect customers from the breeze without inhibiting the view. When the weather is fine, there is nowhere more atmospheric to relax with a glass of your favourite tipple, and gaze out over Loch Ness.
Excellent food is now at the heart of this country pub and the new, constantly changing Dores Inn menu is superb. Food is served from 10am to 9pm every day and dishes include local venison, Highland beef, Portmahomack lobsters and freshly grown vegetables from locals in Dores and Highland producers and suppliers. The pub?s own home baking is also served and people are invited in for coffee and cakes or to simply relax on one of the sofas and enjoy a cuppa while reading the papers. The Dores Inn is family-friendly and managers Sue Leslie and Stuart Ross look forward to welcoming customers of all vintages. It is advisable to book in advance for meals, as the restaurant is very popular and consequently does get full up.
