Highlights of the year Around Loch Ness
We are fortunate in the Great Glen to have the geography and qualities to be able to host a number of major events around Loch Ness every year. We are constantly reminded that it's not only us but our beautiful landscape that contributes most to the success of the major events listed below.
Though Visit Loch Ness has a very full calendar of events throughout the year for all areas, there are a number of important annual events in the area that we have chosen to highlight here.
Scottish Open Golf
Scotland the home of golf. As Turnberry is to Ayrshire and Gleneagles is to Perthshire, Castle Stuart a magnet for golfers around the world is to host this major tournament near Inverness and Loch Ness.
The Loch Ness Marathon
A long running (pardon the pun!) major event held on one weekend in October every year. The fun filled weekend packs in a number of different running events at Loch Ness and Inverness.
RockNess rock festival
In June a major loch Ness event RockNess has been held just outside the small loch-side village of Dores, every year since 2005 Possibly the most talked about music event in Scotland with an enviable line up of top bands performing.
Inverness Highland Games
Founded in 1822 the Inverness Highland Games are one of the most spectacular traditional Gatherings staged in Scotland and are one of the highlights of any visit to the Highland Capital.
Man versus Horse
Following the great success of the first ‘Man v Horse’ race in 2012, this unique event is back in 2013, bigger and better! The 26 km event takes place between the village of Foyers and Drummond Farm near Dores on South Loch Ness.
