A 50-mile sustainable loop route that provides stunning views and varied terrain for walkers and riders in the South Loch Ness area. Please note that some sections can be accessed by mountain bikes, but other areas go through rough terrain and are not suitable for cycles or novice walkers - so please have a look at the directions on the website and choose the route that is most suitable for you and the weather conditions.
The Trail of the 7 Lochs is a circular route so there is no designated starting point. For the sake of argument I have started this talk-round at the Forestry Commission Centre at Inverfarigaig as there is good parking here and toilets. There is parking suitable for horse trailers by the post box just past the junction with the Pass of Inverfarigaig on the Dores ? Foyers Road.
A map of the route and a written description of the Trail are available on this website, but please remember that although we have attempted to waymark the route, problems of marker "vandals" and weather etc. may mean that you misroute, so you are advised always to carry a map and compass with you (with knowledge of how to use them) and to know where you are at all times. Also, we suggest you carry a first aid kit and clothes for wet and cold weather - the weather can change at the drop of a hat in this area.
